Product Description
Gabion Sacks are cylindrical units which are made of double twisted steel woven wire mesh panel 5x7, 6 x 8 or 8 x 10cm according to ASTM A975-97 and EN10223-3. See Fig. I and Fig.II.
Gabion Sacks are filled with stones at the site to form flexible and durable structures for using in river training and emergency works. Sack gabions are supplied with reinforcing wires to be inserted during the manufacturing process to facilitate closing during installation. The wire used in gabion sacks is heavily zinc coated soft temper steel. Standard sizes are shown in Table II.
Mild Steel Wire:
All the wires used in gabion sacks and lacing wire have the tensile strength of 2 38-48kg/mm (54,000-70,000psi) acc.to BS1052/80 and ASTM A641-97. (The figures above are prior to manufacturing mesh). The tolerances on diameter of zinc coated wire are in Table II. The elongation at break is min.12% and should be tested to be carried out on a sample of minimum 30cm (12 in.) long before manufacturing the mesh (In accordance with ASTM A370-92).
Galvanization strictly conforms to ASTM A641-97(Class III Soft Temper Coating). Zinc adherence has to be what when the wire is wrapped around a cylindrical mandrel 4 times. The zinc shall not flake or crack to such an extent that any flake or crack can be removed by simply rubbing with bare fingers.
