HOW TO MAKE A JOINT ON POLYETHYLENE PIPE
1.Ensure that the fitting is the correct size for the pipe used. Cut the pipe to length, making sure that the cut is square and the pipe is not deformed .Remove any burrs from the cut ends.
2.lnsert the appropriate stiffener fully into the end of the pipe until the flange of the stiffener is in contact with the pipe end if necessary use a sharp knife to produce a small chamfer on the leading edge of the pipe bore. EITHER
2.1 lnsert the pipe into the fitting without removing the nut and ring, ensuring that the ring is in the correct position and that the pipe makes firm contact with the stop in the body of the fitting. OR the threads (particularly on larger sizes).
2.2Unscrew the nut and ring from the fitting.Slide the nut and ring onto the pipe, and insert the pipe into the fitting as far as the stop.
Note:you should aiways check to see that the ring is the right way round i.e that the leading edge is the smaller.
3.In both cases, tighten the nut onto the fitting by hand as far as possible. A drop of light machine oil on the threads will facilitate tightening(particularly on larger sizes).
4.Fully tighten the nut with a good well-fitting spanner.
Note:jointing compounds or sealants are not necessary with fittings:the use of these materials could impair the efficiency of the joint.
