Valerian is an herb that has been used since ancient times to treat insomnia, anxiety and nervousness, as well as related stomach ailments. The root is typically used for medicinal purposes, often made into dried powder to make teas and extracts, tinctures and fluid extracts.

Because valerian can decrease muscle spasms, the herb is helpful in treating digestion problems relating to nervousness and stress.
