Description: In old China, a part of a bride's dowry was bed ware such as comforters and linens, which has been sent by the bride's parents in a cabinet such as this. Thus the cabinet is knows as the wedding cabinet. The symbol of unity and eternity represented in the circular shape is prevalent in Chinese custom as seen in the round brass doorplates. Made in between 1810-1910 and retrieved from Zhejiang province, this piece was uniquely customized by the pride parents more than a century ago. There are not two cabinets alike. Made to interlock with perfect fit, without using fasteners, nails or glues, enabling the wood to expand and contract according to humidity, this cabinet fastidiously employs mortise and tenon joinery.
