C26800 Copper - Zinc Alloys Of Brass Foil Roll Width Max 600mm

Brass Information :

Brass is any alloy consisting primarily of copper, usually with zinc. In some cases, copper with tin is considered a type of brass, although this metal historically has been called bronze. This is a list of common brass alloys, their chemical compositions and the uses of the different types of brass.

Brass Alloys

If the brass contains over 39% zinc, it will have a higher strength and lower ductility (at room temperature).

Applications

  1.  Architectural uses
  2.  Condenser/heat exchangers
  3.  Plumbing
  4.  Radiator cores
  5.  Musical instruments
  6.  Locks
  7.  Fasteners
  8.  Hinges
  9.  Ammunition components
  10.  Electrical connectors.

Brass Properties

  1.  bright gold appearance
  2.  higher malleability than bronze or zinc
  3.  acoustic properties appropriate for use in musical instruments
  4.  low friction
  5.  soft - may be used where low chance of sparking is necessary
  6.  relatively low melting point
  7.  easy to cast
  8.  not ferromagnetic (which makes it easier to separate from other metals for recycling)

Example for usage :

  1.  30% zinc and 1% tin, used to inhibit dezincification
  2.  Less than 35% zinc, malleable, can be worked cold, used in pressing, forging, or similar applications. Alpha brasses have only one phase, with face-centered cubic crystal structure.
  3.  30% zinc brass with good cold working properties. Used for ammunition cases.
  4.  37% zinc brass, standard for cold working
  5.  95% copper and 5% zinc, softest type of common brass, used for ammunition jackets
  6.  65% copper and 35% zinc, has a high tensile strength and is used for springs, rivets, screws.
  7.  70% copper, 29% zinc, and 1.3% manganese, used in making golden dollar coins in the United States
