ABS sensor is known as Antilock Brake System sensor.  

It is a device that monitors the rotational velocity of a wheel on a car or truck. 

 
This sensor rides on top of the notched ring attached to the brake rotor. A computer monitors changes in the velocity of all 4 

wheels. If it detects that one or more wheels are rotating at a different speed from the others, it will activate either the 

antilock braking system, which prevents the wheels from locking up  - hence skidding. 
 
ABS sensor readings are also used in cars equipped with traction and electronic stability control   (ESC) systems.  For

 traction control, they detect wheel spin, and reduce engine power to compensate. On cars with ESC, the computer can 

apply braking force to one or more wheels as needed to maintain tire grip in emergency handling situations.
