Stain Shine

Burmese Rosewood is one of the lesser-known rosewoods, though it’s a well-known tonewood within its

natural range. The wood is used for the bars of the ranad ek, a traditional Thai xylophone

.

This is a beautiful rosewood from southeast Asia.  The color may be like that seen above or darker with

deeper reds, or is sometimes orangish.  It can even be almost a deep red in some cases, which is usually

due to longer exposure to light.  There is a nice variegation in some of the grain, too.  The picture above

has been adjusted to more accurately show the depth of the color.
