A process is provided for producing carbon fiber yarns which comprise an
intimate association of carbon fibers. This carbon fiber has an average length of between 100 and 120 mm. The process comprises transforming tows of multifilaments whose count is between 0.5 and 1 dtex by cracking, by drawing, and controlled breaking to obtain long carbon fibers having an average length of between 100 and 120 mm. These carbon fibers are then transformed on standard spinning equipment for long carbon fibers into a range of yarns. This carbon fiber yarns have counts ranging from Mn 1 to Mn 100. The carbon fiber yarns of the present invention can be used for making prepreg fabrics for composites.Carbon fiber yarns can be used to weaving fabrics for dry and wet filtration, fabrics for making Faraday shields, fabrics for carbonization for carbon carbon pieces.And carbon fiber yarns can be used to braid high-performance seals,such as carbon fiber packing,carbon fiber tape,ect.
