Structure and Purpose of Rail-mounted Container Gantry Crane (RMG)
RMG is mainly used for container loading and unloading, handling and stacking in the container rail operation field and large container storage space. RMG consists of the main beam, rigid and flexible legs, trolley, lifting mechanism, traveling mechanism, electrical system, operating cab and other components.
Generally speaking, there is larger clear space in the width direction between the inside legs of RMG. So the legs at one side of it will be designed to be shape "U" and shape "TT" with the trolley maintenance platform. RMG is capable to handle 20', 40' and 45' containers of International Standard. Lifting capacities usually are 36t and 40.5t (under load handling attachment). The spans separately are 22m, 30m, 35m according to the differences of sites, container storage and transportation processes and the vehicles for handling (container trucks or rail vehicles). As for cantilever, there are RMGs with no cantilever, single cantilever and double cantilever, etc; lifting height can be lifting the fourth over three heaping or lifting the fifth over four heaping; trolley can be rotating and non-rotating types.
RMG is operated by the driver using linkage operation platform in the cab. The cab generally suspends under the trolley and runs with the trolley. All crane operations can be achieved by cab linkage control. Crane traveling also can be achieved by controlling at the drive side of the crane to meet the temporary shifting of the crane and realize electric interlocking with the main operation linkage platform.
The current driving control system of the RMG is AC variable frequency drive system. Usually communication control system is used for the crane, wired system is used inside the container with characteristics of high speed and high reliability. The integrated management system can be chosen freely to achieve data transmission to the external control room wirelessly; and realize uninterrupted monitoring, fault diagnosis and data sets collecting for the crane operations system by coordinating with logic controller.
