Nanometer porous aerogel (abr. as aerogel) is a kind of solid gel material with gas dispersion medium, in which the net structure is formed by mutual accumulation of gel particle or high polymer molecule. It belongs to mesoscopic substance and can be used as catalyzer carrier, electrode, absorbent, heat and sound insulting materials and the like. America has used it for star capturer, as well as heat insulating layer in Mars explorer, oil pipeline and LNG. China has also applied it to aerospace vehicle and refrigeration storage. It has very wide application prospect in aerospace, aviation, building, petroleum and petrochemical, power, energy and some other industries.
Feature
Aerogel is a kind of nanometer porous material. The diameters of its pores are less than the average molecular free path of air, so there is no air convection in the pores. It has very high porosity and low proportion of solid substance. Thus it is regarded as the solid with lowest thermal conductivity in the world. By virtue of such low thermal conductivity and good high/low temperature thermal stability, it has great potential in various heat insulating and energy saving fields.
