Several SAAB models suffer from the common dead / fading / disappearing
pixel problem on the SID1 SID2 and the AC / Air conditioning control
unit. The problem lies with the ribbon cable (see the site with the
ribbon cables in the main menu on the left), however some cases the LCD
display is also cracked or scratched, so it need to be replaced too.
The pixel problem lies with the ribbon cable that connects the LCD
display to the circuit board of the SID and the AC unit. Dead and fading
LCD pixels can be restored DIY simply replacing the faulty ribbon
cable. LCD pixel failure repair kits, ribbon cable light bulb,

It is very typical at older Saab 9-3 and 9-5 SID units, that the LCD
display has missing, fading, or completely dead pixels on the LCD
