Treatment results

A minimum of 3 sessions per treatment area are required for cryolipolysis to be effective, with a frequency of one session per week, although sometimes more than three sessions may be needed. The duration of each session is variable, ranging from 20 minutes to 2 hours depending on the cryolipolysis equipment used and the area of the body treated.

Results begin to be apparent from the third week of treatment, and are entirely visible two months afterwards. This is the time required for the destruction of the fat cells and their subsequent removal. The physiological destruction of the dead fat tissue can last up to four months.

What is Cryolipolysis treatment?

Cryolipolysis is a beauty treatment that relies on controlled cooling for non-invasive localised fat reduction in problematic areas of the body. It is a way to reshape your client’s contours. The fatty tissue of any organism comprises cells called adipocytes, which are responsible for storing fat. This fat, like other types of fat (such as cooking oil), changes from a liquid state to a solid state when low temperatures are applied.

Fat solidifies at a temperature of around 5 to 10 degrees Celsius. At this temperature,  the adipocyte membrane breaks without harming the surrounding tissue (comprised mostly of water, which solidifies at lower temperatures) and so the fat is slowly released from the adipocytes, which are transported by the lymphatic system to be processed and eliminated in a completely natural process. The destruction of adipocytes is therefore permanent.

Cryolipolysis is suitable for treating moderate and dense localised fat that appears in different body areas, such as the abdomen, flanks (side of the body between the ribs and hips), arms, back (especially the bra area), knees and subtrochanteric area hip to thigh region). The cooling technique penetrates around 2cm below the skin’s surface and is highly effective in treating and reducing adipose tissue in the surrounding area, without disturbing the normal temperature of the epidermis.

However, it is not a specific treatment for obesity. This technique leads to significant and lasting reduction of localised fat, but for more effective results, it must be combined with a dietary treatment.

There are two ways:
1) by using a suction device on the treatment area, which reduces circulation and cools the subcutaneous layers of fat tissue; or
2) an application method without suction, through devices applied to the skin, with a membrane which becomes cold enough to treat only the fat cells in that region.

These methods are not painful at all, and all your client will notice is an intense localised cooling when the devices are applied. Coldness in the area disappears after a few minutes because the cooling itself produces an anesthetic effect, leaving a feeling of numbness when the temperature of the tissue decreases. After the treatment, the patient can go back to his/her daily routine without any side effects or residual discomfort, except for some redness in the treated area, or a slight flushing sensation which will disappear after 10 or 20 minutes.

As mentioned previously, the treatment does not produce any side effects. The only undesirable effect is that the exposure to coldness may produce a superficial burning, which will disappear in a short time. No other changes or problems occur given no substances are injected into the area and the cold application is localised. However, this procedure should not be applied to people suffering from cold allergies or cold urticaria.
