KOSUN shale shaker is the first stage of solids control equipment in drilling purification system on oil or gas drilling operation. It can remove cuttings above 75μm brought from the drilling well to leave the liquid with smaller particles into the tanks below, which will flow into next grade solids control equipment to be treated.The shale shaker can be also called as drilling mud shale shaker or oilfield drilling shale shaker.
Shale shakers should remove as many drilling solids and as little drilling mud as possible. The dual fluid requires that cuttings (or drilling solids) convey off the screen while simultaneously separating most of the drilling mud from the cuttings. Usually, the only stated goal of a shale shaker is to remove the maximum quantity of drilling solids, in other words, to converse as much drilling mud as possible and achieve the ultimate objective of reducing drilling costs.

Drilling mud will flow through shale shakers, but if the shale shaker is stationary, a significant force would need to applied to the drilling mud to force it pass through the screen, because that the drilling mud at a viscosity which makes the drilling mud flow very slow. If the screen is moved rapidly upward and downward through the drilling mud, more fluid will flow on a given period of time. The upward stroke moves drilling fluid flow through the screen rapidly, and the drilling solids do not follow the screens on the downward stroke, and therefore, are propelled from the screen surface.

The upward motion of the shaker screen forces fluid downward through the shaker openings and moves solids upward when the screen moves downward stroke, solids do not follow the screen, instead, be propelled forward along the screen. This is the theory of balanced elliptical motion shaker and linear motion shale shaker.
