Description: Adhatoda vasica, also known as malabar nut tree is part of the Acanthaceae plant family. It is a small evergreen, sub-herbacious bush which grows commonly in open plains, especially in the lower Himalayas (up to 1300 meters above sea level), India, Sri Lanka, Burma and Malaysia.
Adhatoda leaves have been used extensively in Ayurvedic Medicine for over 2000 years primarily for respiratory disorders. Adhatoda Vasica was traditionally used by midwives at the time of delivery because of its uterotnoic activity.
Function: 1. Stimulates the respiratory system.
2. Induces bronchodilation and relaxes the tracheal muscles.
3. Provides sigificant protection against histamine induced bronchospasm.
4. Reduces the elasticity and viscosity of tracheal mucus.
5. Exhibites moderate hypotensive activity and cardiac-depressant effect.
6. Anti-oxidation and hyaluronidase inhibiting activities, with improved moisture holding property.
