Product Description

Diamond dies - Natural diamond wire dies (ND dies)

Features

Longshine is a manufacturer of diamond drawing dies with natural diamond (ND) blanks inside as a high quality, predictable and durable product for drawing ferrous and non-ferrous wires 0.007 to 2.00 mm (.00019-.0787"). Larger sizes are available by request.

Like all products from Longshine you can expect these products to be manufactured with the highest quality and accuracy standards.

Natural diamonds, abbreviated as ND, are naturally formed within the earth at high pressure high-temperature conditions. Because of its extremely rigid lattice, it can be contaminated by a few types of impurities such as boron and nitrogen.

The ND blanks that Longshine use are all selected for purity and limited inclusions, flattened on a special lapping machine, and sorted in different groups of height and diameter combinations.

Key benefits of Longshine  ND diamond wire dies

• Long die life due to its extreme hardness and resistance to scratching
• Can be used in high-heat processes because of its extreme thermal conductivity
• Blanks are thermally stable up to 1700°C (3092°F)
• Easy setup, smooth drawing
• 100% of all diamonds are checked for inclusions, cracks
• Nonconductive properties make this product a good choice when electrical conductive materials are an issue

Applicability

Natural diamond has been used as a raw material for drawing dies for over 100 years. These natural diamond dies were the first types of drawing dies that were manufactured by Longshine.

SSCD and PCD blanks were invented in recent decades and are gradually replacing natural diamond dies in some applications.

Natural diamond dies are still successfully used for applications that require excellent wire surface qualities, high heat resistance and in applications that require a die material that is not electrically conductive.

Typical application areas:
• Tungsten filament wire
• Bonding wire (gold, copper, aluminum)
• Medical wire
• Stainless steel wire
• Copper wire
• EDM wire
• Special alloy and high performance alloy wire
• Precious metal wire
• Various other ferrous and non-ferrous metal wire types

Product use

Natural diamond can be chosen as a raw material for the following products from Longshine:

• Wire drawing dies
• Shaped wire drawing dies
• Bunching/Stranding dies
• Extrusion tools
• Compacting dies
• Refurbishing/recutting drawing dies
• Burnishing dies

Size range

Natural diamond wire dies (ND dies) are part of Longshine's diamond wire dies product portfolio. Typical ranges (both smaller and larger sizes are available on request):

• 0.007 to 2.00 mm (.00027 - .0787") - natural diamond wire dies (ND dies)
• 0.040 to 35.0 mm (.00157 - 1.378") - polycrystalline diamond wire dies (PCD dies)
• 0.127 to 76.2 mm (.005 - 3.000") - tungsten carbide wire dies (T/C dies)
