The citrus squeezer is an ideal option if you plan on juicing small fruits, such as lemons and limes and don't have the manual power to twist the fruit against a reamer. To use a squeezer, you place half a piece of fruit in the small bowl in the squeezer and lower the handle. The handle inverts the piece of citrus, pushing the juice out while trapping most of the seeds and pulp in the bowl.
For the most ease of use, an electric citrus juicer may be the best pick. To use an electric juicer, you press the cut half of the citrus onto a reamer, which spins by itself thanks to a motor, extracting more juice than you could be hand. A tray stains the pulp while the juice is captured in a bowl below.
Size and Design
Citrus squeezers are too small for larger fruits, including large oranges and grapefruits, so if you plan on making orange or grapefruit juice, you may want to consider either a electric or manual juicer. A reamer will work as well, but will require more steps, as you will need to strain the seeds yourself. If you plan on squeezing a large amount of citrus at once, make sure the bowl on the juicer is large enough to accommodate you.
Some juicers are designed to be more ergonomically friendly than others. A few manual reamers have soft-grip handles so that you don't hurt your palms while using the tool. Other manual juicers feature an angled straining tray and reamer, so that the juice flows into the dish and doesn't spray all over your counter. Look for a juicer that's dishwasher safe if that's important to you.
