Where can the narrow bandwidth FBG be used?
The narrow-bandwidth FBG products can substitute for the TFF in DWDM system,OXC and OADM devices. Moreover, It is proved that this kind of FBG can be used as a fiber grating sensor for distributed demodulation system, which will improve the bandwidth availability of light source in the distributed sensing systems, increase the number of sensing Bragg grating, eliminate the cross-effect between signals, and reduce the cost of the demodulation system.
Advangtages:
The narrow bandwidth of Fiber Bragg grating has the advantage of low insertion loss, low polarization dependent loss , strong anti-interference ability, easy to optical fiber fusion, center wavelength precisely controlled, etc., compared with narrowband thin-film filter (TFF), process more simple and lower cost.
In the application of DWDM
In dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) communication system, narrow channel bandwidth and low channel spacing are needed,its better to have more channel multiplexing/solution multiplexer (Mux/Demux),While traditional multiplexer based on reuse of TFF/solution is not suitable for DWDM systems,due to the process of narrow line-width thin-film filter is difficult and cost high. Due to the excellent properties of Narrow-band FBG, it can replace traditional TFF constructed for effective reuse of DWDM optical communication system multiplexer/solution, dynamic optical cross connector (OXC), optical multiplexer insert points (OADM), and so on.
