Single direction thrust ball bearings
Single direction thrust ball bearings consist of a shaft washer, a housing washer and a ball and cage thrust assembly. The bearings are separable so that mounting is simple as the washers and the ball and cage assembly can be mounted separately.
Smaller sizes are available with either a flat seat surface on the housing washer or a sphered seat surface Bearings with a sphered housing washer can be used together with a sphered seat washer to compensate for misalignment between the support surface in the housing and the shaft.
Single direction thrust ball bearings, as their name suggests, can accommodate axial loads in one direction and thus locate a shaft axially in one direction. They must not be subjected to any radial load.

Cages:
Depending on the bearing series and size, thrust ball bearings are fitted as standard with one of the following cages:
- a pressed steel cage, no designation suffix
- a one-piece machined brass cage, designation suffix M
- a one-piece machined steel cage, designation suffix F
- a two-piece machined brass cage, designation suffix M .
Supplementary designations
The designation suffixes used to identify certain features of SKF thrust ball bearings are explained in the following.
F- Machined steel cage, ball centred
JR- Cage comprising two flat pressed steel washers, ball centred
M- Machined brass cage, ball centred
P5- Increased dimensional and running accuracy to ISO tolerance class 5
P6- Increased dimensional and running accuracy to ISO tolerance class 6
TN9- Injection moulded cage of glass fibre reinforced polyamide 66, ball centred
