Nichrome Alloy Resistance Heating Wire Advantages
1: Higher hot and creep strength
Nichrome alloys have higher hot and creep strength than FeCrAl alloys. The Kanthal replacing wire we developed is better in this respect than the other common FeCrAl grades and have a very good form stability, however, not as good as that of Nichrome.
2: Better ductility after use
Nichrome alloys remain ductile after long use.
3: Higher emissivity
Fully oxidized Nichrome alloys have a higher emissivity than FeCrAl alloys. Thus, at the same surface load the element temperature of Nichrome is somewhat lower.
4: Non-magnetic
In certain low-temperature applications a non-magnetic material is preferred. Nichrome alloys are non-magnetic (except Nichrome Ni60Cr15 at low temperatures). FeCrAl alloys are non-magnetic above 600 °C 1100 °F.
5: Better wet corrosion resistance
Nichrome alloys generally have better corrosion resistance at room temperature than nonoxidized FeCrAl alloys. (Exceptions: atmospheres containing sulphur and certain controlled atmospheres.)
