The event is already expanding this year, beyond the beer garden.

Instead of the 5 p.m. starts of past years, kids activities now kick off at Festival Plaza at 4 p.m. An art table will be set up where kids can create and complete a free art project to take home. Kids will also have the option of contributing to an ongoing sculpture project to be completed by the end of this year's Art Night Out season. The sculpture will eventually go on display at the WOW! Children's Museum.

"The financial support has allowed us to provide more activities for families and children," said Rachel Hanson, chair of the Lafayette Public Art Committee. "It's definitely growing and that kind of reflects the intent of Council and our sponsors to make it a bigger event. But we still want to preserve that small town feel. We want it to be an event where people are comfortable bringing their families."

This year's Art Night Out series will also feature artist booths at Festival Plaza, where artists can sell their work or create for an audience.

"That's just another step in the growth process," Hanson said. "Ultimately, we want the focus to be on having an arts flair. We want people looking at downtown Lafayette as an arts destination."
