INSULATION PIERCING CONNECTOR (IPC) is used for branches of every of service entry cable of low voltage distribution line that use insulated Aerial Bundle Cable (ABC). Designed withstand 6kV in water, it fully insulated and suitable for use on live line works.
The IPC is made of 2 helves of high resistance reinforced thermoplastic body, U – V radiant material which has very high mechanical and climatic properties.
Both main and branch conductors of ABC are pierced by single or double bolt action. Contact blades (teeth) specially designed to assure electrical continuity and without the need to strip the conductor insulation.
Water entry into the cable is prevented by in-built seals around the connector teeth and teeths are covered with silicon grease. The end of branch's cable is capped by end cap which is provided together with IPC.
The bolts which are made of hot dip galvanized steel, have an overtorque plastic shear head that shear off at a certain torque.
