Yunnan chilli, also referred to as Qiubei chilli, is a local specialty of Qiubei county in Yunnan Province. This chilli can be traced back to the early Ming dynasty, introduced by Spanish traders from South America. These and other chili peppers quickly spread through China and other Asian countries. In other parts of the world, the most common name is Chile de Arbol. It is a close relative of the cayenne pepper. 

The spicy and aromatic Yunnan chilli is known for characteristics such as fleshy, thick skin, long and slender shape, vibrant red color, and spiciness. It is rich in oils (13.1%), vitamins C and Bs, carotene, magnesium, potassium, iron, and high amounts of capsaicin. This chili has a pungency rating of 30,000 SHU.

It is traditionally used as a seasoning or as a course by itself. It is also very commonly used a digestive aid.
