The TS3200 Tape Library incorporates IBM's patented Multi-Path Architecture with logical libraries and can be ordered with up to two feature number 8043, an Ultrium 3 LVD SCSI Drive, or up to two feature number 8044, a Ultrium 3 4Gb Fibre Channel Drive, together or mixed, which allows connection to a wide spectrum of open systems servers. IBM Ultrium 3 Tape Drives can read and write LTO Ultrium 2 Data Cartridges at original Ultrium 2 capacities. IBM Ultrium 3 tape drives can also read LTO Ultrium 1 Data Cartridges with improved data rates of up to 20 MB/sec native data transfer rate (40 MB/sec with 2:1 compression).
The TS3200 Tape Library has four removable cartridge magazines, providing 44 data cartridge slots, one 3-slot I/O station, and one dedicated cleaning cartridge slot. Remote management and a bar code reader are standard in the library, allowing the library to run in sequential or random access mode. Optional features available are a rack mount kit, additional power supply, and Path Failover.
Common power cords and selected features announced for the TS3200 Tape Library are also being announced for the IBM TotalStorage 3580 Tape Drive Model L33. The original features and function of the 3580 Model L33 remain as announced.
The TS3200 Tape Library is an external stand-alone or rack-mountable unit and contains a LTO Ultrium tape drive that is designed for the heavy demands of backup tape storage. The TS3200 Tape Library capacity is 44 tape data cartridges, providing a media physical capacity of up to 17.6 TB (35.2 TB with 2:1 compression) data storage per unit. It is supported for LVD Small Computer Systems Interface (SCSI) or Fibre Channel attachment IBM System p and p5, IBM System i and i5, IBM System z and z9 products, IBM eServer xSeries, HP, Sun, UNIX, Linux, and Windows servers.
