Spherical roller bearing is mainly used to bear radial load, but also bear a certain amount of axial load, but usually can't afford to pure axial load.
Outer ring raceway for these bearings are of spherical shape, so has the self-aligning performance, They have two rows of rollers which make the bearings able to carry heavy loads. It is particularly suitable for applications where considerable shaft deflections or misalignment are to be expected.
